Dynamic Audio Mixing

چکیده
3D sound is a powerful technology which allows to give a realistic impression of localization of sound sources. This technology is now mature enough to produce a finegrained spatialization on a set of audio sound sources in real time. However, the are serious limitations in the way this technology is used in current practice. Firstly, composers and sound engineers have great difficulty in mastering this technology to produce 3D sound pieces, because the corresponding controls are too low-level and intricated. As a cobnsequence, the potential of this technology is not fully exploited. In particular, listeners are still considered as passive receivers, and do not have any control on the spatialization of the pieces they listen to.

"Personalization includes enhancement to the control of dialog, use of alternate audio tracks and mixing of assistive audio services, other-language dialog, special commentary, and music and effects. Plus, the system will support both the normalization of content loudness and contouring of dynamic range, based on the specific capabilities of a user’s fixed or mobile device and its unique sound ...
متن کاملA Semantically Motivated Gestural Interface for the Control of Audio Dynamic Range
This paper proposes and tests the efficacy of a 2D gestural interface as a means of controlling audio processing parameters. The process of parameter mapping and subsequent optimisation can be applied within a 3D environment. Highly immersive computer interfaces, such as those found in modern virtual reality systems, offer an alternative platform suitable for 'virtual mixing desk' implementatio...
متن کاملHigh Dynamic Range Audio Applications For Digital Signal Processing
Application of digital signal processing to audio is often limited by available converter technology and recorder datawidth to processes with controlled dynamic range. In digital mixing consoles some analogue gain control is normally required to achieve adequate performance for the input channel ADCs and digital multi-track recorders. This paper examines such dynamic range bottlenecks and deriv...
متن کاملFormal usability evaluation of audio track widget graphical representation for two-dimensional stage audio mixing interface
The two-dimensional stage paradigm (2DSP) has been suggested as an alternative audio mixing interface (AMI). This study seeks to refine the 2DSP by formally evaluating graphical track visualisation styles. Track visualisations considered were text only, circles containing text, individually coloured circles containing text, circles colour coded by instrument type with text, icons with text supe...
متن کاملAutomatic Minimisation of Masking in Multitrack Audio using Subgroups
The iterative process of masking minimisation when mixing multitrack audio is a challenging optimisation problem, in part due to the complexity and non-linearity of auditory perception. In this article, we first propose a multitrack masking metric inspired by the MPEG psychoacoustic model. We investigate different audio processing techniques to manipulate the frequency and dynamic characteristi...
